This was my first figure painting, painted in 2012. I'm quite fond of it simply because it was my first 'go' and it always reminds me of the fantastic time I had that summer, studying at Sarum Studio, Salisbury among fascinating and talented people.
It's a long way from being a finished piece - and there's a lot about it that I would do differently if I were to paint it again. However, I do really enjoy the vibrant, brushy background and the sense of atmosphere. Whatever else is dodgy in the anatomy (there's a lot!) I also feel there is a good sense of how the weight of the figure is transferred through the pose.
